The SMPTE Bits By The Bay Annual Technology Conference returns to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay Wednesday, May 21 and Thursday May 22.

On Wednesday, the conference will focus on Archiving, including Media Asset Management, tape and disk storage, metadata and the AFX standard.
James Snyder of the Library of Congress National Audio-Video Conservation Center will start off the conference with an in-depth tutorial on file-based archive management.
Nick GoldChesapeake Systems’ Nick Gold will be presenting a primer on Media Asset Management that day.
Also featured on Wednesday will be the always-entertaining and informative Mark Schubin with his annual NAB recap. Wednesday will wrap with a cocktail reception and conference dinner.
On Thursday, the focus will be on examining the latest directions and advancements in technology. As wireless spectrum becomes more desireable and scarce, discussion will focus on the impact that situation is having on wireless communications for broadcasters, and what ATSC 3.0 promises to bring broadcasters.
Other topics will include large-format cameras, virtualization of hardware and facilities, file-based caption verification, and all-IP video facilities. The day will end with an enlightening panel discussion featuring a diverse range of industry experts.
